Blues legend John Mayall says that his favourite band at the moment is Foo Fighters.
?Ç£I have some modern bands that I really like, Foo Fighters particularly,?Ç¥ he tells Undercover.com.au. ?Ç£I think they are very creative with their compositions and their approach?Ç¥.
For someone who has released more than 50 studio albums, Mayall doesn?ÇÖt spend a lot of time educating himself about new music. I don?ÇÖt listen to much at home. I certainly don?ÇÖt practice or play,?Ç¥ he says.
He also sees younger guitarists like Jonny Lang and Joe Bonamassa as his heir apparent. ?Ç£There are so many of them now,?Ç¥ he says. ?Ç£It is a unique situation. The younger generation is getting younger and younger turning onto the music and taking up instruments. This is the future. Blues based music is very viable. It won?ÇÖt die out?Ç¥.
Luckily for John he has never been dependant on selling albums. His fans buy tickets. ?Ç£You can?ÇÖt help but notice the record business is in very bad shape and will probably get worse,?Ç¥ he says. ?Ç£I am hanging in with Eagle Records who still want new albums. I can record an album in three or four days so it doesn?ÇÖt cost them a fortune. I am still in good shape for doing new albums. I seem to run a parallel course out of this because I sell more tickets than albums. It is very gratifying?Ç¥.
John Mayall will perform at Bluesfest across the Easter long weekend as well as the following sideshows:
March 26, Adelaide, Governor Hindmarsh
March 29 and 30, Sydney, The Basement
April 1, Melbourne, The Prince Bandroom
April 4, Tweed Heads, Twin Towns Services Club
