The Playboy brand expands so far that they've asked musicians to design clothes.
Pitchfork News reports that the monolith built on cheesecake nudes and Hef's cult of personality is going for an edgy angle by asking acts like The Flaming Lips, Li'l Jon, Kasabian and The Bronx to design tee-shirts for the 'Rock The Rabbit' project.
To coincide with Playboy's annual Sex and Music Issue, the magazine will feature the musicians and their designs in a photo spread (hopefully among less fully-clad ladies). The feature will be in the March issue, which oddly hits newsstands on February 9 in the US. Playboy will reprint the designs onto tee-shirts to sell through their stores and online at shopthebunny.com. The originals will be auctioned for the music industry's HIV charity LIFEbeat later in 2007.
Apart from the above artists, other musicians getting their art in the girlie mag are: Dean & Britta, Home Video, Illinois, Johnossi, Metric, Monsters Are Waiting, Oh No! Oh My!, Rhymefest, Soulwax, stellastarr, Tahiti 80, The Thievery Corporation, Trainwreck Riders, Whitestarr and Your Vegas. The list suggests those at Playboy have been able to ignore girls long enough to dig up some underground talent.
