Polyphonic Spree : Together We're Heavy

Together We're Heavy

By Tim Cashmere

Texan twenty-two piece group The Polyphonic Spree have come out with their second brilliant album, loaded with melodies and noises that at times sound structured by god himself.

Band leader Tim DeLaughter somehow manages to organise all these musicians into one uplifting and magical musical experience that just falls together. It's chaotic, but somehow it works so simply.

Their second album is littered with everything from beautifully epic to the dark and mysterious, but a majority of it is stunning melodies, however they be presented. The orchestration is nothing short of sheer brilliance, and the musicianship is beyond simple admiration. How this band doesn?t sound like a complete mess is beyond me, but through a choral hark to the progressive rock bands of the seventies, The Polyphonic Spree have made a triumphant mark in musical history.
