Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings
: Let The Good Times Roll
By Tim Cashmere
23rd September 2004
When Bill Wyman left the Rolling
Stones, he spent time with his family getting his life back
in order. I know this, thanks to this DVD and it's info-packed
documentary tacked on the end of two (count 'em, two) complete
concerts of Wyman's current band, The Rhythm Kings.
The Rhythm Kings make a point of having a good time, performing
some of the last half century's greatest tunes, from rockabilly,
rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, country and just straight
out blues. The two live concerts on this DVD are testament
to their musicianship.
The current lineup includes legendary organ master Georgie
Fame, rockabilly guitar hero Albert Lee and drummer Graham
Broad who has played with everyone from Tina Turner to Roger
Waters.
Over two concerts, the band tackles tunes by Ray Charles,
Chuck Berry, Australia's first pop legend Johnny O'Keefe,
Screamin' Jay Hawkins and a few originals.
While age seems to have had its way with the musicians visually,
they can still tear through these tunes like no one else and
if you're not careful, you might just find yourself dancing
around your living room uncontrollably.
