BRITNEY SPEARS : Britney |

The Undercover Review No question, Britney is the Queen of Pop. Actually, Popette would be a more appropriate title. If anything, the star of the Britney albums is songwriter Max Martin, the true genius behind not only Britney but also Backstreet Boys. Max writes the songs that makes the whole world sing. He is a pop genius, second to no-one in the current pop climate. The Max Martin sausage machine has been good to Britney. He leads a relatively anonymous lifestyle while the world is out staring at her bosoms. Now that is talent. Martin has written 5 of the songs on this album and he has the knack of writing for the image of the person. When Britney sings "my life has been so overprotected" in "Overprotected", you almost believe she means it. Likewise with "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" stop and think for one moment ... the song is written by a MAN. We will concede one thing though, English Diva Dido did co-write it. Britney shouldn't perform covers. She did an abortive job of The Stones "Satisfaction" on the last album and her attempt at Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is just crap. Boyfriend
Justin Timberlake wrote "What's It Like To Be Me". It bridges
the NSYNC / Britney sound. Also, in what appears to be a huge leap
in credibility, BT co-writes with Britney on "Before The Goodbye".
Unfortunately, the BT style is so diluted it comes out sounding just
like another Britney song. A producer the calibre of BT could really
have done some innovative things for Britney, but who are we to say
the pickle shouldn't be on a Big Mac.
