by Tim Cashmere Now wait up, I can tell you now it's not what you're thinking. There are no upside down crosses, tales of blood and gore and listeners wondering how the singer doesn't get a sore throat in the morning. This is a dab of rock with a decent sized pinch of groove helped along by QOTSA front man Josh Homme and Belgian rocker Tim Vanhamel of Millionaire. Big budget recordings are out of the question, this is just three guys jumping in a studio together and jamming out instant classics like 'I Only Want You', the very Rolling Stonesey 'So Easy' or the undeniably catchy 'Flames Go Higher' kicking off with "I'm gonna set my soul on fire/my heart beats low as the flames go higher!" The lack of perfection is what makes this album great, like the multiple attempts at starting 'Bad Dream Mama', complete with background studio noise and random chit chat. The folk factor appears in 'Midnight Creeper' and the simply bizarre follows it up with 'Stuck In The Metal' a play on the Stealers Wheel's 1973 classic 'Stuck In The Middle'. The album is iced in humour through and through, but 'Whorehoppin (Shit, Goddamn)' tops it off. "I said shit goddamn, I'm a man!" I like it. 'San Berdoo Sunburn' undoubtedly has torn its roots straight out of the British invasion's pop side as the band head down a Beatles-esque route. Track
