GABRIELLE : Dreams Can Come True Greatest Hits Vol 1

The Undercover Review

In England, Gabrielle has had 15 chart hits. That is an amazing record and I guess that makes this an amazing record. In fact it is the amazing voice of Gabrielle that sets her aside and has made her one of England's greatest soul singers of the last 10 years.

From her first single "Dreams" she has not lost any momentum. In fact, that song created somewhat of a record by becoming the highest chart entry for a debut artist when it broke in at #2 in 1993. There are some great liner notes from Gabrielle in the booklet. She said "Dreams" never felt special when she recorded it, it was just another song.

She says the success of "Dreams" gave her confidence and that her second single "Going Nowhere" was a letter to her then boyfriend breaking up the relationship. Ouch, what a way to go. I think of lot of Gabrielle's success has to do with her life being part of her lyrics. "Give Me A Little More Time" was about her pregnancy and "Sunshine" picks up a few years later with mother and son.

"If You Ever" is performed with boyband East17. As you can see, she lasted a lot longer than them. "Rise" is a magnificent soul piece, similar in feel to Procul Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale".

"Out Of Reach" was recorded for Bridget Jones's Diary and the last two songs "Don't Need The Sun To Shine" and "If I Walked Away" are both new.

Three albums are nicely condensed to one with "Dreams Can Come True"
