Icehouse : Heroes

Back in 1995, Icehouse released an album called 'The Berlin Tapes'. It was a covers album that did moderately well for them. Now, thanks to Icehouse singer Iva Davies being commissioned to re-record his cover of Bowie's 'Heroes' for the Athens Olympic games, he figured, why not re-release the whole thing?

There is a slight difference with this re-release, for one, it closes with the "Athens" version of 'Heroes' (as opposed to the "Berlin" version that opens the disc) and The Cure cover 'At Night' is missing, but other than that, it's all here.

After the original cover of 'Heroes' (which was originally at the end), Iva struts his stuff singing covers by Talking Heads ('Heaven'), The Velvet Underground and Nico ('All Tomorrow's Parties'), another Bowie track ('Loving The Alien'), a Lou Reed solo track ('Berlin') and even Frank Sinatra ('All The Way').

Iva Davies and crew have no trouble getting through a great selection of tunes while both preserving the original feel of the songs and adding their unique touch, mainly thanks to Davies' blatantly obvious and clear vocals. Don't be scared off by the Channel 7 logo on the front, this is a great compilation.
