Muddy Waters : Messin'
With The Blues

It's a sad fact, but our blues
royalty are beginning to become an endangered species. Thanks
to the advent of DVD however, we can ensure we'll forever
have clear records of legendary performances, such as McKinley
Morganfield, better known as Muddy Waters' appearance at the
1974 Montreux festival in Switzerland.
What made this performance so legendary? Well to begin with,
the band he was playing with. Ex Rolling Stone Bill Wyman
on bass, the legendary Buddy Guy on guitar and the amazing
Junior Wells on harmonica and vocals.
This performance begins with Junior Wells leading the band
through 'Messin' With The Kid' and 'Hoodoo Man Blues', before
Buddy Guy joins him with 'When You See The Tears From My Eyes',
written by Guy and Wells together.
When Muddy Waters finally hits the stage, there is a strange
aura about him. He commands attention with his every pose
as he gracefully trots through blues classics like 'Hoochie
Coochie Man' and 'Mannish Boy'.
There isn't much in the way of bonus features, save for two
interviews, one with Buddy Guy and the other with Big Bill
Morganfield (Muddy's son). Both were conducted by Bill Wyman,
and both aren't so much interviews, more conversations. They're
interesting to watch, but not a reason to buy the DVD. That's
okay however, because for any diehard blues fan, this concert
footage is reason enough to separate with your hard earned
cash. 21 years on from his passing, and 30 years on from this
concert, the man is still a blues legend.
