P. DIDDY & THE BAD BOY FAMILY - The Saga Continues...

The Undercover Review

Puff Daddy aka P. Diddy has gathered his posse for his third album and their is power in numbers. 'The Saga Continues..." showcases the acts from Puff Daddy Bad Boy label as much as the man himself.

The allstar R&B lineup includes Faith Evans, Black Rob, Mark Curry, loon, MJG, Cheri Dennis, Kain, Kokane, G. Dep and Big Azz.

The Saga Continues has a cool beginning. Puffy kicks off with a sample of the eerie Alan Parson Project instrument, Sirius.

We start to get serious with Bad Boy For Life, some hot funk featuring Black Rob and Mark Curry. The lyric is just as important as the tune. Puffy holds nothing back throughout the entire release with lyrics that read more like a statement "we can't be stopped now, 'cause we're bad boys for life".

That's Crazy is a pop ditty for P. Diddy, a bit of a love song to JLo (the movie star chick on my arm) and this isn't the last we hear from her on the album. JLo gets another message on I Need A Girl with the guilty plea of "I need a girl who will lie for me, die for me, go to court for me and pay my bail for me, clean my cell for me, lie to the industry".

'Let's Get It' would have been a great Biggy tune but then the spoken work Shiny Suit Man gives us all another reality check as to who we are dealing with here. "I know you've heard my name before, my government name is Sean Combs, Sean Puffy Combs, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy. I own this $500m shiney suit". Bang into Diddy, we might as well brand the Diddy name.

Blast Off is electro-funk (is that a new genre), while Roll With Me gives us pure seductive R&B thanks to Faith Evans.

On Top is a new sound for Puffy with some Afro vocal rapping from Marsha. Where's Sean is pure Stax, I wonder if he ever considered calling in Isaac Hayes to help out on this one. Sell it to a cop show Puffy, it will make a great theme.

Cheri Dennis has a sweet pop voice. She sings So Complete. I look forward to hearing more from her. There's more funk in Lonely (echos of Prince).

Wow, Back For Good Now, cool soul with an overlapped rap. The Last Song showcases what really the Bad Boy sound is and features Diddy, Mark Curry, Big Azz & Loon.

Think of it as Puffy's third album, but it's album worth checking out as a Bad Boy sampler. You'll be hearing a lot more from the voices on here.
